At the January Pack Meeting we talked about all of the great Den Leaders and all-around adult helpers in the Pack. We also discussed a critical need for upcoming needs. In short, we still need you ! Check out the link below; we still need at least 6 people to keep this Pack going strong!

Around the Pack
It's always good to see Scouts out and about in the community. Last weekend, one of the local Rotary clubs held their annual pancake breakfast at Westminster Presbyterian Church. While many groups help (including Boy Scout Troop 366), special recognition goes out to our Cubs from Pack 661 who were also there lending a helping hand. Webelos Michael D. and Jimmy W. along with Wolf Nathan H did an excellent job hauling dishes, syrup, drinks and more!

Do you have other news of scouts in action? Send them along to cubscouts661@verizon.net!

Each spring, we have a service project where we clean up the playground at Westminster. The date hasn't been set for this (want to make sure the snow is REALLY gone!) - stay tuned!

Call for Help; Heritage Reservation Independence Dining Hall

Hi.
Following is a message that we've been asked to send along from the Greater Pittsburgh Council:

THIS IS A CALL FOR HELP
YOU HAVE ALL HEARD BY NOW ABOUT THE COLLAPSE OF THE CAMP INDEPENDENCE DINING HALL (http://www.heritagereservation.org/) . THE COUNCIL'S INSURANCE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ON SITE, AND TODAY, THEY SENT IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING PEOPLE TO SURVEY THE BUILDING.

IT IS PRETTY MUCH A LOSS.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY, OUR CONTRACTOR WILL BE ON SITE, TO KNOCK DOWN WALLS, AND SCOOP THE CEILING OUT OF THE STRUCTURE, AND GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEMPT ANY SALVAGE. THE CONTRACTOR WILL ALSO BE ON SITE WITH US ON SATURDAY, TO INSURE THAT NOTHING UNSAFE WILL BE ATTEMPTED.

WE ARE DEVELOPING A TEAM OF ABOUT 40+ ADULT VOLUNTEERS (18 AND OLDER) WHO CAN MOBILIZE THIS SATURDAY.

OUR MISSION WILL BE TO SAFELY ENTER THE STRUCTURE, RETRIEVE ANY TABLES, BENCHES, JAMBOREE GEAR, OR OTHER ITEMS THAT MAY BE REASONABLE TO SALVAGE.

ALL ITEMS WILL BE PUT ON TRUCKS AND TAKEN TO TRAILERS, OR THE INFIRMARY TO BE DRIED OUT AND INVENTORIED.

THIS IS A CRITICAL DAY FOR THE JAMBOREE CONTINGENT……AND A VERY IMPORTANT DAY TOWARDS PREPARING INDEPENDENCE TO GET BACK ON IT’S FEET FOR THE SUMMER.

WE NEED WORKERS….

THERE IS STILL SNOW IN CAMP. LATE TODAY, THE DINING HALL WAS STILL AT THE 3 FT LEVEL, HOWEVER, IT IS MELTING QUICKLY, AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAS CLEARED ROADS FOR US TO SAFELY MANEUVER.

YOU WILL NEED TO DRESS ACCORDINGLY. IT IS STILL COLD, YET TODAY, THEY WERE RUNNING AROUND IN T SHIRTS. YOU MIGHT NEED RAIN GEAR. WEAR WORK TYPE SHOES, BRING EXTRA CLOTHES, AND DON’T FORGET GLOVES.

WE WILL BE USING CAMP TRUCKS TO MOVE THE GEAR, BUT IF YOU HAVE A LARGE PICK UP OR TRUCK/TRAILER, IT WOULD BE HELPFUL.

WE NEED TO COMPLETE THIS TASK BEFORE ALL INSIDE IS RUINED BY THE WEATHER.
WE WILL HAVE COFFEE AND ICE TEA PREPARED. ALL ARE ASKED TO BRING SNACKS FOR THE DAY, AND A SACK LUNCH.

THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL FOR GLASS AND NAILS WITHIN THE STRUCTURE. MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOU HAVE HAD YOUR TETNUS SHOT.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE.

WE PLAN TO START AT 8:15AM. ARRIVE IN CAMP, PROCEED BACK AND PARK IN THE INDEPENDENCE LOWER PARKING LOT. DO NOT DRIVE BACK TO THE DINING HALL. WITH ALL OF THE SNOW ACCULATION, PARKING IS EXTREMELY LIMITED, AND WITH TRUCKS MOVING BACK AND FORTH ALONG THAT ROAD, WE DO NOT WANT ANY VEHICLES DAMAGED.

WE HOPE TO WRAP THINGS UP LATE AFTERNOON, AND HAVE EVERYONE SAFELY ON THE ROAD WELL BEFORE DARK.

THE KEY TO THIS MISSION IS FOR THIS TEAM TO WORK SAFELY.
IF YOU KNOW FOR CERTAIN THAT YOU CAN ATTEND, PLEASE DROP ME AN EMAIL (send to cubscouts661@verizon.net). PLEASE FEEL FREE TO INVITE OTHERS WHO CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE. REMEMBER….ALL WORKERS MUST BE 18 YRS OF AGE OR OLDER.

THANK YOU. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU SATURDAY.

Speaking of the Blue & Gold; this is the time to make sure that your Cub has completed their work for their advancement ! Get that book out and check in with your Den Leader.

Coming up!
