Scout Sunday; February 5

A message from Cubmaster Rick...

This Sunday, February 5, is Scout Sunday. It would be great to have a strong presence there. The Boy Scouts will be coming mostly to the later service (11:00 AM). We would like to have Cubs present at the first service - it begins at 8:30 (it's not that early - you're in school by then on Monday!). If you can come, please try to be there by about 8:10 in the front entry. We will be passing out bulletins, greeting people, and taking the collection plates. If you already attend WPC, this should be relatively easy for you to take part in, and for anyone who can, it will be immensely appreciated, both by the Pack and the church.
If you can, please send me a note at cubman661@gmail.com to let me know that you will be participating.

Pinewood Derby Information; Design Categories, adjusted Rules 'n 'at

Hi,
{If you don't have your Pinewood Derby kit, please contact your den leader}.

Again this year, scouts, siblings, friends and family will vote on Race Day for their favorite car(s).
Here are the categories in the design competition for this year:
  • Most patriotic
  • Most scout related
  • Most creative
  • Most humorous
  • Best paint job
  • Most realistic
  • Overall design
Also, the regulation regarding the wheels has been updated. You may choose to buy after-market BSA wheels if you choose not to use the black ones included in the kit...

{The following supersedes the posting of January 18; Rules 'n 'at}
{Item #6, wheels required to be BSA, has been updated}

Here are the official race rules:

Below are the basic rules we abide by.
The Pinewood Derby Committee’s decisions will be final.
All cars must pass inspection to qualify for the race.
You may not use cars from previous years

4. The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
5. The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body. Overall height may not exceed 6”.
6. The wheels must be official BSA wheels. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the wheels.
7. The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated, but you must use powdered graphite/silicon. NO OIL
8. Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
9. The car must not ride on any type of springs.
10. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
11. No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot, may be used.
