Late March Pack Update

Please note - there will be no April Pack Meeting. We hope to see you at the Blue & Gold Banquet on Saturday April 16th! There is a lot of information in this update - so please read through carefully. Spring is traditionally a busy time on the scouting schedule and you won't want to miss any of it! Blue & Gold Banquet Saturday April 16 at Westminster Church Fellowship Hall starting at 4 PM: Invitations have been mailed and require an RSVP. The advancement program will start at 4 PM and will be followed by the dinner. Both events will be in Fellowship Hall this year. We ask that scouts wear their "dress blues". If you have not received an invitation or have any questions, please contact Beth at cubscouts661@verizon.net. Scouting For Food in April: This is an annual service project for scouting and we've had the support of our sponsor, Westminster Church in facilitating this. We are asking all scouts (and a parent) to give one hour of their time at some point during this drive. We will need scouts to do one of the following: - distribute bags after each service at Westminster Church on Sunday April 10th (8:30 AM, 9:45 AM, 11 AM - 5 scouts/parents each service) - collect bags at Westminster Church on Sunday April 17th before the 8:30 AM and 9:45 AM services (5 scouts/parents each service) - collect before the 11 AM service on Sunday April 17th and begin to sort/package goods (11 scouts/parents needed this service) In addition, scouts will be given bags to pass along to family & friends to fill. This will come from each den leader once the bags arrive. Any goods collected by the scouts can be brought to the Blue & Gold Banquet. So here is another opportunity for 11 other scouts/parents before and immediately after the Banquet to collect and sort goods brought by fellow scouts. Scheduling will be done through den leaders - more info to follow. Contact Joyce at burton3363@verizon.net with any questions. Camping opportunities: A lot of information came your way late last week about camping opportunities. You should have received two notices about camping. One covered general information about both day camp and Heritage over-night camps for cub scouts. The second was directly from Colleen P. with more detailed information about Day Camp. She spells out the answers to many of your questions. To minimize confusion - anyone registering for South Park Day Camp should send all required information to Colleen at the address indicated on the Day Camp post instead of sending to the Council Office or registering on-line. Save the Date: Two events that we mentioned last month, deserve to be mentioned again - so save the dates and check back on the blog for more information to come. - Pack 661 Elson Farm Campout - May 13 - 15 - USC Community Day Parade - Saturday May 21 around 11 AM starting at the USCHS parking lot Recruiting Tiger Cubs (and any other interested potential scouts!): Do you know any "K" boys interested in scouting? Jeff Devlin has started to recruit for Tiger Cubs and would like to get dens set up and summer activities planned for incoming cubs. For info and to sign up for the new cub mailing list - have prospective cub parents go to : http://cubscouts661.blogspot.com Email Updates: Do you know of any cub scout families who are not getting these updates sent out at least monthly? Have you changed your email. Have you "graduated" out of the pack and want to be removed from the mailing list? All of these are reasons to contact us with updates. Send an email to cubscouts661@verizon.net with your update. Outdoor Classroom Activities: The Outdoor Classroom, formerly known as the REEC, regularly schedules classes that pertain to various requirements/advancements our scouts plan to earn. Some classes are specific to cub scouts (This Saturday is a cub scouting program focused on the Wetlands and includes a 3 mile hike.) These activities can be scheduled as a pack or den - or can be done as an individual. For more information, contact Jessica Stombaugh Kester, program manager at Jessica@TheOutdoorClassroomPA.org.

Dear Parents,
Day Camp is coming just around the corner and we are honoring today's HEROES!

Here is the breakdown:
This is for 5 days of camp, camp will run from 8:30am to 3pm. Date of camp is June 27th thru July 1. Each boy needs to bring a lunch each day.... I will have a cooler at our site. On a daily basis they will participate in Archery, BB Guns, Outdoor sports, Crafts, Games, and a science activity and much, much more. Each boy will receive a Shirt and Hat to wear for that week.

What I need from you if your son plans on attending:a Medical Form, here is the link: http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/parts_ab.pdf. Both A & B need filled out.... this is also another link you might want to use if your son is planning on attending Camp Heritage it is part A/B & C http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/part_c.pdf. After filling out this form it is best to make copies, I will need 2 copies for Day Camp... 1 for my records while at camp and one for Council's records. In addition I will need a form completed for the adult volunteers that will be attending camp.... even if it is one day! So do one for you too!

I will need also need a check in the amount of $65.00 if it is mail to me by April 10th,$70.00 if mailed between April 11 - May 25th and $80 if mailed after May 26th.

I will need adult volunteers for the week, please let me know which day of the week would be most convenient for you. In the past they have had a child-care area for younger sibling who are not scouts, I believe there was a charge for that. Siblings are not allowed to walk around with the groups because of Safety issues. Call me if you need more details or need to ask questions about this.

If you can attach to the form: Your Child's Name, Address, Phone Number, Email, Cell Phone Number, what rank he will be going into and what den he was with. The checks need to be written out to: Greater Pittsburgh Council and mailed to me. If your son earned money thru selling popcorn and has money in the pack account please indicate that. I will ask John Burkett to mail you back a check from your account.
