A note from popcorn kernal Dan....

Hello again Scouts and Parents of Pack 661!

I hope your selling has been tremendously successful. As we draw the 2012 popcorn sale to a close, I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for your hard work.

If you haven't turned your forms in to your den leaders yet:
  • when you do, please keep any cash you may have received and just write a check for that amount (made out to "Cub Scout Pack 661").
  • Also, if your Scout has sold enough to reach one of the prize levels, please indicate his choice of award (if you already turned in and didn't indicate, no problem).

Mark your calendars!
Popcorn pickup will be on Saturday November 3rd in the multi-purpose room of the USC Library, from 11:00 - 3:30.

As before, please let me know if there are any questions I can answer.

Thanks,

Cub Fun Day; the details (important - location change!)

Fun Day - 10/14/12
Info from Brandon...

Looking forward to a good day on Sunday with our 30 registered cubs!

A few reminders:

1. New Location- moved to Altoona and Monroe groves. These are sites 2 and 56 on the attached map- by the BMX track. Don’t forget that Broughton Road is closed in the direction coming from Bethel Park- you should probably come up from Corrigan Drive.

2. Arrival / checkin is at 12:30. Activities start at 1:00. Program runs until 5:30, but in the past it always winds down early and you can of course leave early. I think you should plan on being there at 5:00.

2. Check in with me when you arrive. I need to make sure that I have a phone number where I can reach a parent (if you are not staying). I’ll be collecting the $6 registration fee- cash or check made out to Pack 661.

3. Check out with me before you leave! I always need to know how many scouts we have. I should have patches for the boys when they check out.

4. This is a good day to wear your new Red Pack Shirt if you bought one at the last pack meeting! You don’t need to wear a uniform.

5. Eat lunch before you arrive! Bringing a water bottle is a good idea too. A small backpack (like the ones from Day Camp) are also good to carry around any crafts or BB targets that you will be bringing home- along with a snack & water bottle if you bring them.

6. I’m bringing a wagon. One or two more would be helpful. Let me know if you can bring one, also let me know if you are going to stay for the afternoon. I’d like to have about 5-6 adults.  (e-mail cubscouts661@verizon.netwith responses)

7. Jacque Schultz is asking for help with the setup (morning), running stations (during), teardown (after) - she really needs our help to ensure success! Contact cubscouts661@verizon.net with your availability (morning/during/after)

See you Sunday!

Pack Meeting Tonight, Monday Oct. 8

Pack Meeting tonight Monday October 8!
7:00 PM Westminster Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall

Lots on the agenda for this month...
*DUES collection! $50
*Final POPCORN announcements!
Have you been selling? Orders and money are due soon! Remember, highest seller from each den is entered into a drawing. Winner gets to hit the Cubmaster with a pie at the November meeting!
*T-SHIRTS are in! If you ordered one at the last meeting, or would like to get one (we had extras made in both youth and adult sizes) they are $5 each.

*New TIGER CUBS will be awarded their neckerchiefs

*Scouts will be working together towards earning a BELT LOOP

*Parents will take part in YOUTH PROTECTION training
The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing programs.
Youth Protection is valid for 2 years.

*RECRUITMENT! If you know a boy in grades 1-5 who is interested in joining Pack 661, please encourage them to come to the meeting. We're really depending on word of mouth to get more boys (especially Tigers) this time around. You can also encourage them to let us know they are interested by going to http://cubscouts661.blogspot.com/
Did you know that if you bring a friend and he joins you can earn a "Recruiter" patch?

But wait! There's more!
*Last chance to sign up for Cub Fun Day, Sunday October 14. (We need to have everyone registered by 10/9). Cost is $6.
*Elson Farm Camp Out. If you haven't heard, the date of the camp out has been moved to November 10-11. It might be a few degrees cooler - so we'll build a warmer fire!

As we are trying to keep the meeting in a reasonable time frame, Summer advancements will not be handed out this month. Everything earned since last June (and there seems to be a lot!) will be part of our Court of Honor at the November Pack meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you tonight! Remember, if you have an interested friend, bring him!

Links to sign-up forms

Hi.
I made my one allowed mistake for April in the prior notice (well, actually two mistakes - as both links to the sign up forms were wrong).  My apologies for any confusion...

The correct links:::

Sign up for Day Camp, June 25-29

Sign up for Elson Farm Camping, May12-13

Tons of news (scouting for food, playground, spring camping, day camp...)

Hi.
I've been a real slacked lately, so here's a bunch of important news items all slammed together!
1) Scouting for Food, Sunday 4/22
2) Playground Cleanup, Saturday 4/28
3) Spring Camping at Elson Farm 5/12-5/13 (sign-up now)
4) Day Camp at South Park 6/25-6/29 (sign up NOW)

1) Scouting for Food
Last weekend, the Boy Scouts of Troop 366 handed out bags to all attending Westminster's Sunday services.  On Sunday, 4/22, Cub and Boy Scouts are needed to greet parishoners, collect and thank them for the  donations.  Services begin at 8:30, 9:45, 11am.  Please plan to be there in uniform approx. 30 mins prior to each service (wagons are helpful).  After collecting....organizing and packing of the donations will occur in the entryway of Fellowship Hall.

2) Playground Cleanup
This perennial Good Turn will be on Saturday 4/28 from 9am to approx 11:30pm (depending on the number of helpers!).  Please bring leaf rakes, brooms, leaf blowers, garbage bags, gloves (and kids in clothes that can get wet).  We'll be raking out the leaves from all over, cleaning out the sand box, cleaning all toys and getting the playground ready for the munchkins!

3) Spring Camping at Elson Farm
Calling all campers:  Pack 661’s spring campout at Elson Farm in nearby Toronto Ohio is Saturday May 12 & 13.  Help us plan the weekend by signing up now; please sign up by 4/26 .   This is a family campout, and bringing parents and siblings is part of the fun.  Please sign up by 4/26 to give us an early idea of how many people to plan for.

4) Day Camp at South Park
Cub Scout Day camp at South Park is coming soon!  Monday June 25-Friday June 29.  The district limits the camp size to 240 boys.  Since we could easily be 10% of that limit, Pack 661 needs to reserve spots now for our boys- once they are gone, we’re out of luck.  Please fill out the form  by Wednesday night 4/25 so that we can make a reservation on Thursday.  Another local day camp closed this year so about 60 cubs from that camp will be looking for spaces at South Park!  Reserve your space now.

Preparations for Blue&Gold Dinner

Hi.
Don't forget to send your RSVPs this week! We need to inform the caterer.

And, a message from the B&G planning team:

We would like to involve each of the dens in preparations for the Blue & Gold Banquet. If your den is interested and able, we would love to have each den provide three centerpieces for the evening. The interest is that there will be variety across the room.
Our entertainment is called "Fire & Ice" - and we are having a Blue & Gold Banquet with a touch of green (St. Patrick's Day after all!) Really anything goes - anything "Cub Scout-ish" or St. Patrick's Day. If you are going with the "Fire & Ice" theme - I have battery operated tea candles that you can use - please no open flames. We currently have campfire centerpieces, lanterns, & "floral" centerpieces made from candy. Centerpieces this year aren't meant to be dessert or eaten as a snack by anyone - all den leaders will get to take them home(if there is food/candy they can share it within their den). You'll want to keep them small enough for people to see over them for the awards ceremony and the entertainment. If you need some ideas, Beth would be glad to help you brainstorm. She also has craft materials you may be able to use - but you can also think about using recycled materials.
If you cannot provide any centerpieces - that's fine - just let Beth know by March 8th so that a back-up can be provided. If your den does make centerpieces, you can get them to Beth when you're done with them and she'll store them and transport them to the Banquet. Scout Sunday; February 5

A message from Cubmaster Rick...

This Sunday, February 5, is Scout Sunday. It would be great to have a strong presence there. The Boy Scouts will be coming mostly to the later service (11:00 AM). We would like to have Cubs present at the first service - it begins at 8:30 (it's not that early - you're in school by then on Monday!). If you can come, please try to be there by about 8:10 in the front entry. We will be passing out bulletins, greeting people, and taking the collection plates. If you already attend WPC, this should be relatively easy for you to take part in, and for anyone who can, it will be immensely appreciated, both by the Pack and the church.
If you can, please send me a note at cubman661@gmail.com to let me know that you will be participating.

Here are the official race rules:

The Pinewood Derby Committee’s decisions will be final.
